About us:
Breast Friends has been a registered charity since 1996. The group has gone from strength to strength over the years, with membership now standing at well over 500 and a dedicated committee always striving to offer help, support and friendship for local people from the point of diagnosis onwards into the future.
Our main aims are:
Having Breast Cancer need not be lonely! We have regular meetings at 7.30pm on the last Monday evening of most months (no meetings in January, May or August) at the St Giles' Centre, Lindridge Road, Sutton Coldfield, B75 6JB, where topics range from medical information, given by health professionals, and lighter subjects such as beauty, fashion, health and fitness. You are very welcome to come to any of our meetings, please bring along a relative or friend if you wish, although some meetings are for ladies only, ie a beauty consultant will be giving a talk or a representative from a bra and swimwear company will be speaking.
For those living in the Tamworth area there is a separate subgroup, the Pink Peonies, which meets at the Sacred Heart RC Church Centre, Glascote on the first Monday of each month (excluding Bank Holidays). We have contact with a 'Lovely Ladies' Group for younger women in Sutton Coldfield – contact Breast Friends 0121 378 3037 for more details.
The Lotus group, offering information and support to patients with secondary cancers, meets on the first Thursday of each month from 2.30pm-4.30pm at the St Giles Centre, Lindridge Road, Sutton Coldfield B75 6JB.
You can support us through single donations, regular donations and/or through fundraising events. Donations can be made through our My Donate, Virgin Money Giving or Just Giving web pages.
February 2018 saw the launch of our Specialist Women’s Cancer Support Service, based at the St Giles' Centre, Lindridge Road, in a room specially set up and furnished from funds raised during our 20th Anniversary. Special thanks go to the Boldmere Bullets, who raised over £30,000 for this project. You can read more about this service here.
The Professionals: The Breast Friends Cancer Support Charity receives a great deal of support from local surgeons, doctors and nurses who are committed to providing the best treatment for breast cancer. They often give up their valuable time to speak at our meetings about changes and developments in treatment.
Our main aims are:
- To help local patients diagnosed with breast cancer through a difficult time by offering friendship and emotional support
- To raise awareness of breast cancer so that local people will seek diagnosis and treatment at an early stage.
- To provide practical help, on request from local healthcare professionals, to help local women with breast cancer.
