The group has gone from strength to strength over the years, with membership now standing at well over 500 and a dedicated committee always striving to offer help, support and friendship for local people from the point of diagnosis onwards into the future. We also provide an ongoing confidential support service offered by our trained volunteers. Our main aims are:To provide emotional support to local patients diagnosed with breast cancer. To raise awareness of breast cancer so that local people will seek diagnosis and treatment at an early stage. To raise funds to provide practical support on request from local healthcare professionals.. Having Breast Cancer need not be lonely! We meet on the last Monday evening of every month (with the exception of January, May, August and December) at Good Hope Hospital, where topics range from medical information, given by health professionals, and lighter subjects such as beauty, fashion, health and fitness. Although breast cancer mainly affects women, support is also offered to local men diagnosed with breast cancer. A quarterly newsletter is circulated to all members, which includes interesting articles, information and an update on subsidised outings and fundraising events. The ProfessionalsThe Breast Friends Cancer Support Charity receives a great deal of support from local surgeons, doctors and nurses who are committed to providing the best treatment for breast cancer. They often give up their valuable time to speak at our meetings about changes and developments in treatment. Registered Charity No. 1059584 |
